Licences by state
Fences need a licence above a set job value.
Fencing is licensed differently in each state. The basics:
- Victoria
- Domestic work above the registration job value needs a builder registered with the Building and Plumbing Commission. There is a limited class for gates and fences.
- New South Wales
- Fencing is a listed licence category. A contractor licence is needed above a set job value.
- Queensland
- There is no single fencing class: several QBCC classes cover fences, and carpentry covers timber and metal fences only. A licence is needed above a set job value. Pool safety certificates can only be issued by a QBCC-licensed pool safety inspector.
If you hold a licence or registration, the number goes on the site. For pool fencing, the site says you build to the pool barrier rules only if you do.

Yes, if you do. A short page says how you quote shared fences, so both neighbours know what to expect before you visit.
Do pool fences get their own page?
Yes, if you build them. It names the barrier work you do and leaves the inspection and certificate to the people licensed to issue it.
Can the site help with sloping or rocky blocks?
Yes. A page on stepped and raked fences, with photos, shows you handle the hard ground that puts other fencers off.
Do gates get their own page?
Yes. Gates, including automatic gates if you fit them, get a page with the styles and hardware you offer.
How many fences will this get me?
